Whisky was produced on the site of the Benrinnes distillery in 1826 but was destroyed in 1829 and a new one erected in farm buildings in 1835 under the nameLyne of Ruthrie. The distillery changed hands a few times during which it was renamed Benrinnes. In 1887 it was described as having two stills. In 1955 its own malting floors were replaced with a Saladin Box. The distillery went to partial triple distillation in 1974. They stopped making their own malt in 1984 and purchased from the market and got rid of the Saladin Box. Partial triple distillaton was stopped in 2007 when it went back to the more traditional 2 stills.
